Be careful out there while surfing the web. For quite some time I have been doing web development at work for the corporate intranet. One of the sites that I used to use for reference material related to trans-oceanic fiber optic networks went down one day. I figured that they were having server troubles and didn't think much of it. I tried again a few days later and it was still down, a month goes by, the site remain unaccessible. I eventually forget about it, and go on about my business and day to day work. I decided to check out the site to see if they got it back up after what I thought might have been a major rebuild. Well, there was definitely a major rebuild, the site is now another porn site. Yeah, the web sure needed another one of those. It seems the company took the site down and let the domain registration expire. I was quite embarrassed to have a pornographic web site on my computer screen at work, and in my favorites, along with a large number of the subsequent pop ups that come along with those sites. It was easy enough to explain, as many other computers in the office have the same site on their favorites list. I spent a large amount of time going through the office and removing the favorites, as well as going through many web pages making sure I removed all the links to the site.
It just goes to show you that you need to be careful out there when searching the web, you never know what you'll come across on some unlikely domain names.
