So I've adopted another dog. This one was chosen to be more of a companion for my companion (God) then for me directly but I must admit he is already growing on me. That in and of itself surprises me a bit as I have never had a male dog (or desired to) before. I went to the shelter with a bit smaller (think Pug, Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Jack Russell etc.) and most likely female dog in mind. The majority of the dogs available for adoption were large, male and noisy, the anti-trifecta of pet companionship in an urban environment. So the choice came down to a very over hyper female terrier mix or a quiet but friendly small bag O bones male Shepherd mix. Unfortunately through a small discussion with the desk clerk adoption counselor I found out that the shelter is not a no kill shelter. She did say that they "try" to keep animals as long as possible but that "sickly or unpleasant" dogs get put down to make room for "more adoptable" dogs. So "Bag O Bones" won out due to shear pity and visually reminding me of how homely God looked back when I first adopted her.
While the shelter listed him as being 2 years old, given his overall behaviour I tend to guess him a spot younger. (Or he is simply quite a bit immature for his age.) He has quite a bit in common with God when first adopted... being scrawny (more so than God) and skittish of nearly any strange sights or sounds along the way. On the other side of the coin while walking him today he was very curious of nearly every passerby on the sidewalk.
But I digress... (Or do I?)
So after adopting him last night around 7PM I had absolutely no ideas for a name. I kind of got to know him a bit more during our walk to the pet store to get the little guy a training collar. Given his curious nature on the walk I of course considered "George" as a possible name. But the characteristic that earned him his new moniker was his constant "liquid graffiti" even portioning out many drop or two paintings. Nearly a day after being adopted the name Kilroy was settled upon.
For those interested a dog photo album will be added ASAP and text links to related photos added to this posting.
